In-depth review: Ghost Fleet review: a naval battle against the Kraken
Ghost Fleet is unlike anything else in our catalogue. Nothing spins. Instead you get a sea chart of 8×8 squares buried under thick fog, and five cannons lined up below a brass frame. Somewhere under that fog, nine ghost ships are riding at anchor. Your job is to find them and sink them.
Pick a bet, then pick your volleys
Two settings come before the first shot. The bet, and the number of volleys for the round: 3, 5 or 7. Three volleys cost exactly the bet, five cost twice the bet and seven cost four times as much. What you buy with the extra cost is coverage: every volley drops five more cannonballs onto squares that are still hidden, so more fog lifts and more hulls get exposed. One press of Fire! plays the whole sequence.
The hidden fleet is always the same size: four sloops two squares long, two brigs of three squares, two frigates of four squares and one square galleon covering two by two. Ships never touch along a side. A ship sinks when its last square is uncovered and pays its value on the spot, from the humble sloop up to the galleon, the richest prize on the chart.

The Tide multiplier
Look at the gauge along the top of the screen, numbered 1 to 8. That is the Tide. It starts every round at ×1 and climbs one notch each time a ship goes down. So the second wreck of the round is paid ×2, the third ×3, all the way to ×8. Rounds where four or five ships sink in a row are the ones that make the session.
Powder kegs and the wreck bell
Not everything under the mist is a hull. A cannonball that lands on a powder keg sets it off, and the blast uncovers all eight squares around it. If one of those squares holds another keg, that one blows too, so chain reactions are part of the game. The wreck bell works differently: hit it and it rings out, clearing the fog from its entire row in one go.
Three treasure maps open the Kraken Hunt
Find three treasure maps in the same round and the bonus begins. The chart grows to 10×10, you get eight free volleys of six cannonballs each, and the enemy fleet gets bigger. In the middle lurks the Kraken, ringed by twelve tentacles. Every tentacle you cut pays a prize, multiplied by the Tide at that moment, and cutting the twelfth one defeats the monster for the biggest reward in the game. Each extra map turned up during the Hunt adds a volley.

Bonus buy, options and max win
The Kraken button sends you straight into the Hunt, no treasure maps needed. Autoplay can stop by itself when the bonus opens, and turbo mode speeds up the cannon fire. The maximum win is 3,670 times the stake paid for the round. Every outcome is settled on our server the moment you bet; the cannons, the splashes and the explosions just play it back.

Frequently asked questions
How do you sink a ship in Ghost Fleet?
Uncover every square it sits on. Cannonballs, powder kegs and wreck bells all lift the fog; the moment a ship's last square shows, it sinks and pays its value times the current Tide.
Why play 5 or 7 volleys instead of 3?
More volleys clear more of the chart, so you tend to sink more ships and find more treasure maps per round. The cost scales with it: 3 volleys cost one bet, 5 cost two and 7 cost four.
How do I trigger the Kraken Hunt?
Find three treasure maps in a single round, or buy it outright with the Kraken button.
What is the maximum win in Ghost Fleet?
3,670 times the stake paid for the round.
