Gridiron Noir football slot

A stadium at night, floodlights cutting through the dark, and Brutus the bulldog quarterback blowing a pink bubble while he waits for the snap. Gridiron Noir plays like a slot, but it keeps score like a football game.

In-depth review: The Gridiron Noir playbook

A slot with a scoreboard

Gridiron Noir is an American football slot from Nocturn Play. The reels are 6 wide and 4 high, which gives 4,096 ways to win: three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the left, pay in any row. What makes it different is the drive. A yard line runs above the reels, and every winning spin pushes the ball toward the end zone. Score a touchdown and you go to Overtime, a free spins round with a climbing multiplier and one last throw that can multiply the lot. The top win is 5,000× the bet.

Symbols and the floodlight

The premium end of the paytable is pure football memorabilia: the trophy, the champion ring, the helmet and the ball, then the stopwatch, the whistle, the goal posts and the yellow penalty flag. Gold-rimmed A, K, Q and J cover the small wins. The floodlight is the wild. It appears on reels 2 to 6 and stands in for every symbol except the golden ball, which is the scatter.

How the drive works

You start on your own 20, with 80 yards to go. A small win gains 5 yards, bigger ones gain 10, 25 or 50, depending on how much the spin paid. Like the real game, you have four downs to gain 10 yards. Make it and you get a fresh first down; fall short on fourth down and it is a turnover, with the ball sent back to your 20. The panels on the right show the down, the distance and the yards left to the end zone.

The drive is saved, and each bet level keeps its own. If you switch stakes, you pick up the drive you left at that stake, so a ball parked on the 10-yard line is still waiting for you later.

Overtime and the last-second pass

A touchdown gives 8 free spins. Three, four, five or six golden balls on the reels also start Overtime, with 8, 10, 12 or 15 free spins (more than six still gives 15), and if a touchdown and the golden balls land on the same spin, four spins are added on top. During Overtime, every winning spin moves a multiplier ladder one step up, from ×1 to ×2, ×3, ×4 and finally ×5, and it never goes back down. Symbols also pay more in Overtime: about one and a half times the amounts in the paytable, before the ladder multiplier is applied. Three or more golden balls during Overtime add four spins, up to twenty in total.

When the last spin ends, the clock freezes at 0:01. You pick a receiver on the left, in the middle or on the right. A catch multiplies the entire Overtime total by ×2, ×3, ×5, ×10 or ×25; a deflected pass simply keeps what you won. The Overtime button buys the round for 62× the bet, with 8 free spins, and leaves your drive untouched.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get Overtime in Gridiron Noir?

Score a touchdown by driving the ball 80 yards, or land three or more golden balls in one spin. The Overtime button sells it for 62× the bet.

What happens on a turnover?

If a fourth down ends short of the 10 yards, the ball goes back to your own 20 and a new drive starts.

What does the last-second pass pay?

A caught pass multiplies the whole Overtime win by ×2, ×3, ×5, ×10 or ×25. A deflected pass keeps the total as it is.

Does my drive carry over?

Yes. The drive is saved separately for each bet level, so you find it where you left it.
