In-depth review: Velvet Vault mines guide: greed, nerve and the cash-out button

Velvet Vault in short

Velvet Vault is a mines game in Nocturn Play's Originals collection. The board is a 5×5 grid of 25 tiles. Before the round you choose how many mines are hidden, anywhere from 1 to 24, and the rest are diamonds. Open tiles one at a time: every diamond raises the multiplier, a mine ends the round and takes the bet. Cash out whenever you like to collect your bet times the current multiplier. The ceiling is 10,000× the bet.

A safecracker named Rocco

The mascot is Rocco, a grinning raccoon in a purple waistcoat who leans on a brass drill almost as tall as he is. When you pick a tile, he leaps onto it and drills it open. Diamonds go into his purple velvet loot sack, embroidered with a gold crescent moon, which swells as the round goes on and bursts into the payout when you cash out. The traps are black onyx stones, and finding one is not good news for Rocco.

Mines, diamonds and the multiplier

Velvet Vault in play, diamonds revealed on the grid and the multiplier rising

The Mines menu sets the danger level and the Diamonds box shows how many safe tiles that leaves. With 3 mines you have 22 diamonds to find; with 24 mines there is one diamond and 24 traps. A label above the grid shows what the next tile would bring you. The more mines on the board, the faster the multiplier climbs with each diamond, because every safe pick is harder to come by.

The round ends in one of three ways: you press Cash out and collect, you hit a mine and lose the bet, or you uncover every diamond and are paid automatically. If one more tile would push the multiplier past the 10,000× cap, the game pays you at that point too.

Ways to pick

Tap any tile you like, or use Pick random tile to let the game choose for you. The Auto tab plays a series of rounds: you mark on the board the tiles to open each time, set the number of rounds, decide how the bet reacts after a win or a loss, and add stop limits on profit and loss.

Proof that the board was set before you played

When you bet, the server lays out the whole grid at once and immediately shows a fingerprint of the round's secret seed. At the end, the seed itself is revealed. In the Fairness panel you can check that the two match, which proves the mines were placed at the start and never moved while you were choosing tiles.

Frequently asked questions

How many mines can I set in Velvet Vault?

Anywhere from 1 to 24 on the 25-tile grid. The remaining tiles hold diamonds.

When can I cash out?

After any diamond. You collect your bet times the multiplier shown at that moment.

What is the maximum win?

10,000× the bet. The round is paid automatically when the next tile would go over that cap.

How do I know the mines were not moved?

A fingerprint of the round's seed is shown when you bet and the seed is revealed at the end; the Fairness panel lets you compare them.
