In-depth review: The Sapphire Sleeper review: scratching your way from Paris to Istanbul
The short version
The Sapphire Sleeper is an instant-win scratch card from Nocturn Play. Each ticket has 9 frosted windows and a round Destination stamp. Three identical items in the windows win that item's prize, from half the ticket price for the rose to 100 times for the locomotive. The stamp then multiplies the win by 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10. Three brass punches open Koko's compartments, a pick bonus worth 5 to 100 times the ticket price per door. The top prize of a ticket is 1,000 times its price, and there is no bonus buy.
Your ticket, please

The ticket comes from the Sapphire Sleeping Car Company, first class, with its own serial number. You choose the price with the minus and plus buttons, press Buy ticket, then rub the frost off each window with a finger or the mouse. Reveal all uncovers everything in one go, and Auto plays a series of tickets on its own. Koko the koala, in a satin nightcap and pyjamas, yawns beside the ticket. Tap him once per ticket and he swings his pillow to wipe one window clean for you.
The prize list
The eight items are paid as multiples of the ticket price when three of them appear: rose 0.5, top hat 1, perfume 2, pearls 4, trunk 10, pocket watch 25, sapphire brooch 50 and locomotive 100. A ticket never holds more than one winning item, so the amount you see is always simple to read. The panel on the left shows the prizes already converted for the price you chose.
The Destination stamp
The round stamp on the right of the ticket names a city on the line, and each city carries its multiplier: Paris ×1, Vienna ×2, Venice ×3, Athens ×5 and Istanbul ×10. It applies to the whole ticket, item prize and compartments together. Three pocket watches stamped Istanbul pay 250 times the price.
Koko's compartments
Brass punches are the bonus symbol. Find three in the windows and Koko opens the corridor of his sleeping car: five closed doors, of which you pick two. Each door holds 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50 or 100 times the ticket price. Koko then stamps the sum with the ticket's Destination multiplier. The doors you did not pick open afterwards to show what they hid.
Decided at the counter
Every ticket is settled the moment you buy it. Scratching fast or slowly, starting from the top or the bottom, using the pillow trick or Reveal all: none of it changes the result.
