In-depth review: How to back a swan in Gilded Swan Regatta

A race game for quiet nights

Gilded Swan Regatta is a race betting game from Nocturn Play. Six swans race across a moonlit lake, you back one of them, and the race plays out on screen. It is closer to a virtual horse race than to a slot: no reels, no symbols, just a choice of swan, a choice of bet type and a few seconds of gliding. A round can pay up to 2,000× the bet.

Six swans, six prices

Gilded Swan Regatta race under way with the swans gliding along their lanes toward the arch

Each swan wears its own jewel: Sapphire, Ruby, Amethyst, Gold, Pearl and Onyx, the only black swan on the lake. They are not equally fast. Sapphire is the favourite and comes with the shortest odds; Onyx is the outsider, rarely first past the arch but paying more than twenty times the stake when it is. The odds for every swan are printed on its card, so you always know what a win would pay before you race.

Win or Podium

A Win bet pays only if your swan finishes first. A Podium bet pays if it finishes anywhere in the top three, at lower odds. Podium on the favourite is the gentlest way to play; Win on Onyx is the boldest. Everything between is up to you, and you can change your swan and bet type before every race.

Golden lilies, the Moonpath and the Crown

When the race starts, some lanes carry a ring of golden lilies. If there is one in your swan's lane and your bet wins, the payout is multiplied by ×2 or ×3, and on rare occasions by ×25 when the ring is an imperial lily. Once per race the moon also lights a single lane, the Moonpath. The swan in that lane puts on a short burst on screen, but the Moonpath never changes the finishing order, which is already fixed when you bet: it only matters for the Crown. When the Moonpath and an imperial lily fall on the same lane and you backed that swan with a Win bet that wins, you take the Crown of the Lake, the top prize of 2,000× the bet. Close races may end in a photo finish, which only adds to the drama.

Racing on any screen

On a desktop the lanes run across the lake from left to right; on an upright phone they turn vertical, with the swan cards in a neat grid below. Auto runs a series of races with the same choice, and Turbo shortens them. The result of each race is decided the moment you bet, and the animation simply shows it. There is no bonus to buy: every race is a fresh one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Win and Podium?

Win pays when your swan finishes first. Podium pays when it finishes first, second or third, at lower odds.

Which swan is the favourite?

Sapphire has the shortest odds and Onyx, the black swan, the longest. Each card shows the price before the race.

How do golden lilies work?

If there is a ring of golden lilies in your swan's lane and the bet wins, the payout is multiplied by ×2, ×3 or, for the imperial lily, ×25.

What is the Crown of the Lake?

The top prize, 2,000× the bet. It needs the Moonpath and an imperial lily on the same lane, and a winning Win bet on the swan in that lane.
