The Spindle of the Fates review: a board where destiny keeps spinning

Four marble rings, twelve rays and three sisters who spin, measure and cut. How the second reel-free release of 5 October plays, from the first thread to the Great Spindle.

Published 5 October 2026 · Updated 5 October 2026 · Nocturn Play

The Spindle of the Fates is a circular board game made by Nocturn Play and released on 5 October 2026: four rings of twelve squares spin around a golden spindle, and you win by lining up three or four symbols along a ray from the centre. Each winning ray pulls a Golden Thread that respins a ring and multiplies the wins that follow, while the Atropos' Shears bonus cuts the small symbols away. The Great Spindle, with all twelve threads pulled, pays the maximum win, and the game is free to play on nocturnplay.com.

Where the Fates live

"The Fates are spinning", says the loading screen. Then the temple appears: white marble columns above a rocky shoreline, an evening sky caught between purple and orange, the sea below taking the last of the light.

Greek myth supplies the cast. Clotho, the youngest, in white and purple, holds a golden distaff and spins the thread of every life; she lifts it high when you win. Lachesis, under her blue veil, measures the thread with a golden rod, and in the game she is the one who respins a ring. Atropos, the eldest, purple hood and a stern stare, keeps the shears that end it all. On a phone she stands in the middle above the board, a sister on each side.

Reading the board

The golden spindle sits at the hub. Around it, four concentric rings of twelve squares. Twelve rays slice the whole thing like spokes on a wheel. Set your bet, press "Spin": the rings turn, then come to rest in order from the centre outwards. That staggered stop is deliberate, because each ring that lands either completes a ray or spoils it.

A ray pays when the first three squares out from the centre, on rings 1, 2 and 3, show the same symbol. If the outer-ring square follows suit, it pays more as a "4 in a row". A ray only counts its best combination, but every winning ray adds to the total. The spindle is wild: it replaces anything but the shears, and never lands on the centre ring, so each ray has to start on a real symbol.

At the bottom of the table sits the silver obol with its owl, followed by the knucklebone and the pomegranate. In between come the purple shell, the laurel, the trident, the mask, the amphora and the helmet, with the lyre at the very top.

The Golden Thread, explained

The Golden Thread is part of every spin, bonus included, and it is what turns a modest hit into a run. Each winning ray pulls a thread. Once at least one thread is pulled, Lachesis respins a ring, just the one. If the respin makes new rays win, each pays as many times over as there are threads pulled in total. Then she respins again. The run stops when a respin fails to pull a new thread.

Worked example: a run that climbs to ×3

You bet £1. The rings settle: one ray shows three knucklebones out from the centre, another two masks and a spindle wild. Two winning rays, paid ×1, and two golden threads pulled. "Lachesis spins a ring again" flashes up, and the third ring sets off. It stops with an amphora right at the end of two amphorae already in place, so a third ray wins. Three threads are now pulled, which means this ray pays ×3. Another respin follows, this time of the outer ring; nothing new lines up, no thread is added, and the run ends there. Three rays paid, the last of them tripled, from a single stake.

Atropos' Shears and the golden ring

Shears appear on the outer ring and nowhere else. Land three or more and the bonus begins: 8 free spins, plus two more for each extra shears symbol, capped at 20. Three things change from that point.

First, Atropos starts cutting. At the beginning of every free spin she removes the lowest symbol still in play: the obol, then the knucklebone, then the pomegranate. She makes three cuts at most, and a cut symbol stays out until the bonus is over, so the space it leaves goes to stronger symbols. Second, the rim goes gold, each of its squares now marked ×2, ×3, ×5 or ×10, multiplying whatever its ray wins. Third, the Golden Thread carries on just as in the base game, so respins can stack up on a ring that already multiplies.

The peak of the game is the Great Spindle. Manage to pull all twelve golden threads within one free spin and the game hands over its maximum win. The win of any single round is capped, and that cap is exactly what the Great Spindle pays.

How to approach a session

The Spindle of the Fates suits players who love a chain reaction: a spin can look ordinary, then one respin leads to another and the round runs away with itself. In the base game most of the value comes from Golden Thread runs; the big moments belong to the free spins, when the gold ring and Atropos' cuts work together. A steady stake, a session budget set in advance and a little patience are the right recipe.

If you would rather go straight to the bonus, the purple "Atropos' Shears" button buys 8 free spins at the price the game shows for your bet. Autoplay can pause when Atropos steps in, and turbo whips the rings round faster once you have the hang of it.

Not quite a wheel, not quite a respin slot

The board looks like a prize wheel, where a single segment decides everything. Here it is the opposite: all twelve rays are read at every stop and several can win together. The Golden Thread recalls line slots with respins, which spin a reel again to complete a combination; the twist is the multiplier that grows with each thread, and the fact that a whole ring moves. Phone, tablet and desktop

In portrait the three Fates tower over the board and the controls gather at the bottom of the screen. In landscape and on a big screen, the winning rays table sits on the left, with its two columns for 3 and 4 in a row, and the bet panel on the right. Nothing to install: it all runs in the browser.

Play it free, or offer it to your players

The Spindle of the Fates game page has the "Play" button: the game starts at once, no account, in any of its 32 languages, with 52 currencies and 11 cryptocurrencies on offer. It is listed under Slots and New releases, even though it turns on rings rather than reels.

Operators don't need to ask for anything: the game is live by default on every SoftAggregator account, plugs in through a single API with a shared wallet, and is billed at 8% of GGR with no setup fee.

Frequently asked questions

Is The Spindle of the Fates a regular slot?

No. It is grouped with the slots, but you play on a round board of four rings and twelve rays, with no reels anywhere.

What does Lachesis do in the game?

She sets a ring spinning again every time a new golden thread is pulled. Rays that win after her respin are multiplied by the count of threads.

Which symbols does Atropos cut?

During free spins she cuts the lowest symbol still in play at the start of each spin: the obol, then the knucklebone, then the pomegranate. Three at most, and they don't come back.

How many free spins can I get?

Eight to start with three shears on the rim. Each extra shears symbol adds two spins, so four shears give ten and five give twelve, up to twenty.

What is the Great Spindle?

The high point of the bonus: a free spin in which all twelve golden threads end up pulled. The game then pays its maximum win.
