Lunar Alchemy review: potions, moon phases and multiplier bombs
An alchemist's lab, a moon that changes the symbols and bombs that wait until the very end to go off. A full walkthrough of Nocturn Play's moonlit cluster slot.
Published 4 October 2026 · Updated 5 October 2026 · Nocturn Play
Lunar Alchemy is a cluster slot from Nocturn Play played on a 7×5 grid with no paylines: eight or more matching symbols touching each other win, disappear and let new ones drop. Each drop advances the moon, and at full moon simple potions turn into precious crystals; bombs carrying ×2 to ×100 multipliers explode at the end of the sequence. It came out on 3 October 2026, pays up to 5,000× the bet and can be played free on nocturnplay.com.
Selene Vaux's laboratory
The alchemist Selene Vaux works by moonlight with a small winged companion hovering nearby. Shelves of glassware, a cauldron, a window full of night sky. The grid is stocked with four coloured vials (turquoise, violet, amber, rose) as the everyday symbols and small, medium and large crystals as the valuable ones. The Philosopher's Stone is the scatter.
How a round unfolds
Spin, and look for groups. Here a group counts when its symbols connect sideways, up and down or diagonally, and you need at least eight of a kind. Every group that qualifies pays, vanishes, and the column above slides down to fill the gap. If the refill builds a new group, the cycle repeats. The round only ends when a drop produces nothing.
The moon is the real engine
Each drop moves the moon one phase along: new moon, crescent, full. When it is full, the potion symbol that appears most on the grid is upgraded, and one plain vial in every winning group becomes a precious crystal. Long chains are therefore doubly valuable: more drops means more payouts, and more drops also means more transmutation.
Bombs that wait their turn
Bombs land carrying a multiplier from ×2 to ×100. They don't explode immediately. They sit on the grid while the drops continue and detonate together when the sequence ends. Their values are added up, and the total multiplies the round's win. Two bombs of ×5 and ×20 make ×25, not ×100.

A round you might see
You are playing for 1 euro. The first spin shows nine rose vials knotted together in the lower left: a win, the group clears, the moon moves to crescent. In the refill, a ×4 bomb lands at the top of column five, and eight amber vials connect diagonally across the middle; second win, the moon turns full. Now the grid's most common potion becomes a crystal type, and the next group of large crystals pays far more than vials would. Nothing connects after that, so the sequence stops and the ×4 bomb goes off, multiplying the total of all three wins by four.
The Great Work: free spins
Collect at least four Philosopher's Stones, in any position, and you receive an instant prize plus entry to the free spins, called The Great Work: 10 spins for four stones, 12 for five, 15 for six or more. Three extra stones during the bonus add five spins. Two things make this mode stronger: bombs turn up far more frequently, and the moon no longer resets at the start of each spin, so a full moon can carry into the next one. Players who prefer to go straight there can buy the bonus for 60.3× the bet.
How it feels to play
Lunar Alchemy is about sequences. Single-drop spins are common and small; the interesting rounds are the ones that keep tumbling long enough to fill the moon and collect bombs. That makes it a good fit for players who enjoy watching a combo build and don't mind a few quiet spins in between. Keep the stake comfortable for a long session, and consider autoplay with fast mode while you wait for the stones.
Lunar Alchemy vs Sweet Bonanza and Gates of Olympus
The obvious reference is Pragmatic Play's Sweet Bonanza: a 6×5 tumble slot where eight or more identical symbols pay anywhere on the screen, with bomb multipliers that only show up in free spins, a 100× bonus buy and a 21,100× ceiling. Lunar Alchemy asks for connected groups instead of scattered symbols, lets bombs appear in the base game too, and adds the moon cycle. Gates of Olympus players will recognise the pleasure of watching multiplier orbs pile up before they count. For a related game from our own range, read the Zero Orbit review.

On your phone
The 7×5 grid is wide, so sideways is the most comfortable way to play on a phone; upright works as well, with the grid stacked under the alchemist. Same HTML5 game everywhere, no app to download.
