Viking Raid review: two bonuses on a Norse fjord
Longships, horns and rune coins under the northern lights. Viking Raid gives you two separate bonuses and lets you buy either. Here is how both work.
Published 4 October 2026 · Updated 5 October 2026 · Nocturn Play
Viking Raid is a 4×5 Norse slot from Nocturn Play with 625 ways to win and two bonuses. The longship wild turns its whole row wild; three horns start The Storm, free spins with a multiplier that adds one per spin up to ×12; six rune coins start The Raid, a Hold & Win where each completed row pays its rune and a full grid pays the Grand Loot. It is a high-volatility game, released on 29 September 2026, with a 5,000× maximum, and you can play it free on nocturnplay.com.
Fjord, aurora, four warriors
The reels are set on a dark fjord under green and violet northern lights. Four warriors make up the top symbols, and the jackpot ladder of runes sits beside the grid. It is a classic theme handled with restraint: cold colours, heavy drums, and the longship gliding across the reels when it lands. Nothing is cartoonish; the warriors look like people who have rowed a long way in bad weather.
The grid and the longship
Four reels, five rows, 625 ways: wins count on adjacent reels from the left, in any row. The longship is the wild. When it appears, it sails along its row and turns that whole row wild, which can connect several ways at once.
The Storm
Three or more horns start The Storm. These free spins come with a multiplier that increases by one on every spin, up to ×12. The longer the storm lasts, the more each win is worth, so the final spins carry the most weight. A modest line win at ×1 on the first spin can be the same symbols that pay twelve times as much at the end, which is why many players simply sit back and watch the counter.
The Raid
Six or more rune coins start The Raid. Coins lock in place and respins follow, with new coins locking as they land. Each row of the grid has a rune, Fehu, Thurs, Ansuz, Raido or Odal, and completing a row pays that rune's prize. Fill the entire grid and you take the Grand Loot, close to 1,000× the bet.

Following a Raid
You spin at 20 kroner. Seven rune coins land: The Raid starts with seven positions locked. The first respins add coins in rows two and four. Row four fills completely, Raido pays. Two respins later, row one is complete too: Fehu pays. With fourteen coins of twenty spaces, the grid is not full when the respins run out, so the Grand Loot slips away this time, but two rune rows and the coin values are paid.
High volatility, explained
Viking Raid is a high-volatility slot. That means the base game can stay quiet for a while, and the bigger results are concentrated in the two bonuses. Practical consequences: choose a stake you can hold for a longer session, avoid raising it after a dry patch, and decide in advance whether you want to buy a bonus. The Storm costs 45.5× the bet and The Raid 51.3×, two different prices for two different kinds of excitement: a rising multiplier, or a grid to fill.

Viking Raid vs Wolf Gold and Vikings Go Berzerk
Pragmatic Play's Wolf Gold is the best-known reference for coin respins: 5×3, 25 lines, a Money Respin, three jackpots with a mega prize of 1,000×, no buy, medium volatility. Viking Raid takes a similar coin feature, pays row by row, adds a second bonus and lets you buy both, at a higher volatility. Yggdrasil's Vikings Go Berzerk is the other famous Norse slot, built around rage meters in free spins. The comparison page has the detail, side by side with the other titles we measure ourselves against. For a different Hold & Win, see the Golden Abysses review.
