Games like Big Bass Bonanza: fishing slots

Fishing slots are all about one moment: the collector lands and scoops up every fish on screen. Golden Abysses, from Nocturn Play, takes that moment underwater and makes it happen outside the bonus too.

If you like Big Bass Bonanza, try Golden Abysses, the fishing slot from Nocturn Play where a diver wild harpoons golden fish and collects their values. It plays on 5×4 reels with 1,024 ways, adds a Hold & Win bonus with four jackpots, and tops out at 5,000× the bet.

What players love about Big Bass Bonanza

Pragmatic Play's Big Bass Bonanza started a whole series of fishing slots, and its success is easy to explain. The rules fit on a postcard. Fish symbols carry money values. In free spins, a fisherman wild arrives and collects every fish on the screen. Catch enough fishermen and the bonus levels up, with bigger multipliers on what he collects.

The appeal is the collection itself. Seeing a row of fish with cash values and then waiting for the fisherman is pure anticipation. It is also a cheerful, low-stress theme: a lake, a boat, a tackle box. Players who stick with fishing slots usually want that same loop of "fish with values, then a collector", with enough variety to stop it feeling like the same game over and over.

Golden Abysses: the collector goes diving

Golden Abysses swaps the riverbank for sunken ruins and a giant anglerfish glowing in the dark. The collector is a diver with a harpoon gun, cheered on by a turtle in flying goggles. Three things set it apart from the lake-and-boat formula.

The diver collects in the base game

In Big Bass Bonanza the fisherman only collects during free spins. Here the diver is the wild on reels 2 to 5, and every time she lands, in normal play, she fires and collects the value of every golden fish on screen. Two divers count the catch twice; three count it three times. That makes the base game a lot busier than most fishing slots, because a collection can happen on any spin.

1,024 ways instead of lines

The reels are 5×4 and pay on 1,024 ways, so ordinary wins come from matching symbols on adjacent reels rather than on set lines. The symbol set runs from a treasure chest, a golden trident, a shark and a giant octopus down to an anchor, the anglerfish, a seahorse and a jellyfish.

Hold & Win with four jackpots

Instead of a free spins round, three or more black pearls start Hold & Win. Pearls and fish stay locked, you get 3 respins, and anything new that lands resets the count. The diver still shows up inside the bonus and doubles the fish and treasures next to her. Jackpots are won row by row: rows completed one after another pay the Mini, Minor and Major in turn, while a full screen pays the Grand. Catching the golden giant fish is a shortcut to the Grand. Players short on patience can buy their way in for 71× the bet.

Big Bass or Golden Abysses?

Big Bass Bonanza is simpler and has an enormous following, with a long line of sequels. Its maximum win is 2,100× the bet. Golden Abysses suits players who want the collector to matter on every spin, who like the locked-coin tension of Hold & Win, and who want a higher ceiling of 5,000×. It also has a darker, more atmospheric look, closer to an adventure film than a quiet Sunday fishing trip with a flask of tea.

If you enjoy the lock-and-respin part most, Viking Raid builds its bonus on the same idea with runes, and Mist Dragon combines classic lines with a Pearl bonus and four fixed jackpots. And if it is the catch itself you enjoy, Leviathan Gold drops the reels for a cannon: aim at creatures worth 2× to 50×, treasure chests and two bosses, with up to 2,000× the bet on a single shot.

Playing it free

Golden Abysses can be played free on nocturnplay.com in any browser, phone or desktop. It is worth playing long enough to see a two-diver spin and a Hold & Win round; those are the two moments that separate it from a standard fishing slot. Autoplay and a fast mode are available.

For casino operators

Fishing slots have a loyal audience, often players who started on a lake-and-boat game years ago, that moves from one title to the next looking for fresh twists on the collector mechanic. Golden Abysses goes live for operators as soon as they integrate Nocturn Play, in all supported currencies, including 11 cryptocurrencies. The full Nocturn Play range is listed on the games page.
